ALIS Awards Finalists – Hottest Investment Deals, Executives to be Honored at ALIS

Today the Americas Lodging Investment Summit (ALIS) announced its finalists for the prestigious ALIS Awards. Among these finalists are executives and companies who are responsible for the most influential hotel industry deals in 2017.

The winners will be announced on Wednesday, January 24th, during the ALIS conference, which runs from on January 22-24, 2018 at the JW Marriott and Microsoft Theater at L.A. LIVE. Nominees for the awards are evaluated based on outstanding business performance in various industry sectors.

In the category of Development of the Year (Full Service) 2017 (includes branded and unbranded – luxury and upper upscale chain scales, and casinos), the finalists are:

  • InterContinental Downtown Los Angeles – Los Angeles, CA
    The 889-room InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown hotel was developed by Hanjin International Corporation/Korean Air and is managed by InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG).
  • Marriott Marquis Chicago – Chicago, IL
    The 1,205-room Marriott Marquis Chicago was developed by Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (MPEA) Chicago for US$455 Million and is managed by Marriott International.
  • Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills – Beverly Hills, CA
    The 170 room Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills was developed by Oasis West Realty for an undisclosed amount. The property is managed by Hilton Worldwide, Inc.

In the category of Development of the Year Select/Limited Service 2017 (includes branded and unbranded – upscale, upper midscale, midscale, and economy chain scales), the finalists are:

  • Canopy by Hilton & Hyatt House Washington DC/The Wharf – Washington, DC
    The 412-room total Canopy/Hyatt House was developed by Hoffman Madison Waterfront for US$194 Million and is managed by Concord Hospitality Enterprises.
  • Moxy Times Square New York, NY
    The 612-room Moxy Times Square was developed by a partnership between Lightstone and Marriott International for US$350 Million and is managed by Magna Hospitality Group.
  • YOTEL Boston – Boston, MA
    The 326-cabin hotel was developed for US$97 Million by Wheelock Street Capital LLC and is managed by YOTEL.

In the category of Single Asset Transaction of the Year (US$25M & Under) 2017, the finalists are:

  • Blantyre Resort – Lenox, MA
    Blantyre Ventures acquired the 23-room luxury Blantyre Resort from Fitzpatrick Holdings for US$7 Million.
  • Staybridge Suites Houston Medical Center – Houston, TX
    Midas Hospitality purchased the 120-room Staybridge Suites Houston Medical Center from Pride Management, Inc. for US$21.6 Million.
  • The Stiles Hotel – Miami Beach, FL
    Blue Road purchased the 57-room boutique hotel from Carlyle Group for US$17.5 Million.

In the category of Single Asset Transaction of the Year (Over US$25M) 2017, the finalists are:

  • Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach – Honolulu, HI
    CommerzReal acquired a majority interest in the 839-room Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach from Highgate Capital Investments in an off-market sale for US$525 Million.
  • The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara – Goleta, CA
    A joint venture between Carey Watermark Investors Inc. and Carey Watermark Investors 2 Inc. (collectively “CWI”) acquired the 358-room The Bacara Resort & Spa (converted to The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara) from Pacific Hospitality Group for US$380 Million.
  • The Standard High Line – New York, NY
    Gaw Capital acquired the 338-key The Standard High Line from Dune Real Estate Partners and Greenfield Partners for an undisclosed price.

In the category of Merger & Acquisition of the Year 2017, the finalists are:

  • An affiliate of KSL Capital Partners and KKR acquired Apple Leisure Group from Bain Capital Private Equity for an undisclosed sales price.
  • RLJ Lodging Trust acquired FelCor Lodging Trust in an all-stock transaction that equated to approximately US$2.7 Billion.
  • Wyndham Hotel Group acquired AmericInn for US$170 Million.

In the category of Jack A. Shaffer Financial Advisor of the Year 2017, the finalists are:

  • Jeffrey Davis, International Director, Jones Lang LaSalle
  • Douglas P. Hercher, Principal and Managing Director, RobertDouglas
  • Daniel C. Peek, Sr. Managing Director – Head of the Global Hospitality Group, HFF
